Nail Tutorial: Nightmare Before Christmas

Ok, I know that Halloween is long gone, but fall has just started! I figured it would be okay to post this.  I had done this nail tutorial before Halloween, but I ended up posting the Room Decor before. Let's get started!

Steps:

1. Clean off any nail polish you may have on.  If you don't have any on, it's still a good idea to clean them.



2. Get out the colors.  You'll need a precision brush for a black nail polish, white nail polish, and a clear topcoat.
Topcoat: Sally Hansen "Clear'd For Takeoff"
Black Precision Brush - Milani Nail Art
White Polish: Sinful Colors "White As Snow"



3. Apply your topcoat to protect your nails from chipping and getting colored.

4. Apply the white polish evenly over all of your nails.



5. Use your black precision brush to create stripes on all of your nails except for your ring finger.  This will be Jack's shirt. Don't worry if you get any on your skin, I did and you can just go back with a Q-tip and some nail polish remover.



6. Next, on your ring finger, create oval eyes, slits for the nose, and large smile across the bottom of your nail.  Then, add stitching to the smile.  You just made Jack's face!



7. Apply your topcoat again over the dry design to seal it in, help it last, and have a gorgeous shine.

Haul: Room Decor!

Hey everyone!  You may know that I have been changing my room in the last couple months.  You can read about it if you scroll down and look for a post called: Where I've Been, What I've Been Up To.  

Anyways, As you can see from the title, I have a haul on what I got for accent pieces.  My room has a ton of white, peach, and cream so my accent pieces are mirrored, white, and silver.  Also, everything I mention except for the candle and the mirror was purchased at Hobby Lobby. Hope you enjoy this haul!

1. This flower was very inexpensive, around $3 and the vase was $12-$15.  I found the beads that I used inside of the vase for about $6.  I adore this flower because I can't keep flowers alive for the life of me and it is the perfect color to go with my room.  It adds a very feminine touch.

2. The second thing I bought was this candle and jeweled candle holder.  I believe the candle was $8 and the candle holder was $5.  You can also find taller candles, but they are more expensive.  This was probably one of the top two purchases I was most excited about because it is so small and compact, yet it adds so much character to your room.

3. I found this just after the candle, and it was a perfect match.  The jeweling was the same, so I had to get it.  This was about $20, after it was on sale.  There was also an oval shape, but I didn't get it because it was around $35, and that was kind of crazy just for a mirror tray.

4. For my vanity, I was on the hunt for a little mirror that I could turn around and it would be magnified.  I had trouble finding one for a decent price, and also good quality.  Upon going to Home Goods, I found the perfect mirror in their bath area.  It is so convenient for when I do my makeup.  I can turn around the mirror for magnification and it helps me see exactly where to put my eyeshadow or whatever I'm putting on more clearly.  And, it was only $14.  Cha-Ching!

5. In July, I had my birthday, and one of my best friends knew I was changing my room so she asked me what the colors were, and then she went to Hobby Lobby and bought just the lamp, and not the fur.  She hot glued some fuzz she found at her house, and I love knowing that she put her time into making me a present.  Thanks Cana!

6. Technically, this isn't room decor, but I count candles because they can be super decorative.  My favorite time to go to Bath & Body Works is during fall, because I love fall scents!  I found this candle called Cider Lane, and it smells like caramel apples, cider, and cinnamon.  It is one of my favorite candles ever!  I think it was $5, only because it is a mini.  Another great factor about this candle is that the color goes spectacularly with my room.

7. While I was in the process of changing my room, I realized that I needed new bedding.  I didn't want to have to pay for $288 bedding I adore from Anthropologie, so I compromised into getting one from Target.  I know, it sounds like something from target would never look like something so shabby chic, but there is actually a collection from Target called Shabby Chic!  I found an adorable duvet, and I am super happy with it.  You can find it here:http://www.target.com/p/simply-shabby-chic-smocked-duvet-cover-set/-/A-10410340#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=shabby chic  and the uber chic comforter from Anthropologie here: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/093529.jsp

As you can see, this is my vanity area.  It may seem a little cramped, I know!  It's because I haven't gotten my nightstand yet!  I will be rearranging once I get it, and, if you would like, I can show you how I arranged it.  Left to right: Mini pumpkin, flower, mirror, and fluffy lamp.  I will for sure be moving my fluffy lamp to my nightstand.

This area is right next to my vanity and it holds an earring stand, candle, lamp, and scottish dog I got from my Aunt when she lived in Scotland.  I love this area!

This next shelf is directly under the first.  It holds my VS spray and some other sprays and lotions.  I love the way the mirrored tray goes with it, it's so cute!

This last area is the bottom shelf.  It holds most of my Bath & Body Works lotions, and I didn't know where to put my mini candle so I just put it right next to the lotions because the colors went together pretty well.

Nail Tutorial: Festive Pumpkin Face

 This nail design was inspired by my obsession: my little pumpkin!  You will see in this tutorial that I show my pumpkin in every picture!  You can find one just like it at any grocery store, but I found mine at Kroger.  Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

Steps:


1. Find a hard surface that won't get damaged if you spill nail polish.  Then, make sure to take off your old nail polish, or if you don't have any on, it's good to clean them.



2.  Apply any fast-drying clear-coat.  This helps reduce chipping, and also helps your nails from coloring.  I used Sally Hansen Complete Manicure in Clear'd For Takeoff.



3. Get out any color of orange nail polish.  I love neons, so I went for my ColorClub polish in the shade Lava Lamp.



4. Apply your orange polish to each of your nails.



5. Wait for your nails to dry.  After they have, grab a black polish.  It is easier if you use a thin brush, so recommend doing so! I used Milani Nail Art with Precision Brush in black.



6. Next, draw two straight lines near the top of your thumb.  You can choose what nail to put the face on, but I like to use my thumb because it is bigger and easier to draw on.



7. Next, draw a diagonal line from one side of the line to the top.  I know this sounds confusing, so I hope this picture will help!



8.  Draw the other line, and then fill in the triangles.  You have just made the eyes for your pumpkin face!



9. Go to the bottom of your nail.  You can create any mouth shape you want, but I just went for the classic jagged/triangle shaped mouth.



10.  The last step I took to making the face was adding a nose.  I just used the same technique I used on the eyes.



11. For the finishing touch, add a clear topcoat to seal in your design and help the design last.

DIY: Customizing Your Lamp

It's time for another DIY! This time, however, it is not so much beauty related.  Though it is still feminine and girly, I'll go ahead and post it.  Hope you enjoy!

Steps:

1. Get out your lamp. This one is from Ikea and needs a little spice to it.



2. Find some materials at a craft store or around your house. I found some pearl/lace ribbon from my Mom's wedding, so I decided to use that based on the color and theme of my room. You can easily find some material at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or any other crafting store.



3. Measure the thickness of your lamp. Mine was 1 in, so I could put the lace right on the 1/2 point so the lace will be in the exact middle.  A tip that I used was to mark the 1/2 point around the lamp so I can visually see where I should put the glue.




4. Measure out the material you need. Mine was the perfect length to do both the top and bottom of my lamp shade, but if you only want to do one of the sides, that's fine too!




5. Get your hot-glue gun ready. You will need to make sure that the material sticks to plastic

6. Quickly, and carefully apply the glue. Hot-glue dries fast, so you'll be glad you already measured out your materials. Apply the material to the lamp shade and hold on for a few second to ensure that it is securely attached.




7. Let the lamp sit for a few hours to make sure that it is glued on well.

Great Job! Taking these few and easy steps is a good way to add character to some of your furniture. Don't stop here! Let your imagination and creativity flow by thinking of new ideas for different pieces of furniture.

Personal Update: Where I've Been, What I've Been Up To

Hey everyone! I know I haven't been posting very often, and I'm sorry about that! School has been really hectic and I've just been really busy with all of that.

I also just had my birthday! So I was spending some time celebrating with friends and family. I also have a big announcement to make! For my birthday, I've decided to do a room remodel! I got some new pieces of furniture, painted the walls, and picked out some decor! It was really fun, and you should be anticipating a blog on my new room!

What's coming up for BeautyLicious? Well, while I haven't been posting, I've been writing! I've finished lots of blogs that are ready to posted, but I have to upload the pictures first.

Step-By-Step Nail Tutorial: Colorblocked Summer Palm Trees

Hello everyone! I have just been on Pinterest and saw a nail design similar to this one, and it was so gorgeous!  I had to recreate the look. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures while I was doing the design, but
below I have step-by-step instructions. Let's get started!

 Steps:

1. Use a cotton ball and gently remove any nail polish you may have on your nails (I use the Nail Polish Remover non-acetone by Up & Up). Even if you don't have any on, it's good to clean and stregthen your nails.

2. Get your first color. I used Milani Nail Lacquer in the color Tropical Fiesta. Apply on a third of your nail.

3. Get your next color ready. I used Essie Nail Lacquer in the color azure. Apply this to the second third of your nail. (Don't worry if you go over the first color because we will be fixing that later!) 

4. Get out your final color! I used Color Club Professional Nail Lacquer in the color Lava Lamp. Apply this to the last third of your nail.

5. Now it's time to wait! Let your nails dry a good 5 or so minutes depending on the brand of polish.

 6. After letting your nails dry, you can go ahead and get your presicion brush ready. I used Milani Nail Art Presicion brush in the color black.

7. Carefully apply a thin stripe across your nail where the colors are touching. 

8. Wait about three minutes and then move on to the palm tree! Use the same precision brush as before and create a line that goes from the bottom the about the first line. then add stems to the palm tree. It's ok if it's a little messy because this is just a silhouette of a palm tree! 

9. Now you can decide whether or not to do this on all of your nails or just your thumb or big toe. I chose to paint the rest of my toes in the Essie Azure. 

10. Now you can clean up around the nails with Q-tip and nail polish remover. Great job! You have just created a cute nail design that is great for the summer!
